The public sources, rating rules, and age brackets behind every ICHRA affordability figure, and the states where plan pricing is available today.

Data sources

New to the affordability test? Read how the ICHRA affordability threshold is calculated: the formula, the three safe harbors, class rules and a worked example.

For a fuller description of each source and how it's used, see our data sources.

Age brackets

  • Prices are stored for ages 14 through 64, non-tobacco. Age 14 represents ages 0-14, each age from 15 to 63 is its own bracket, and 64 represents age 64 and older.
  • Prices for ages other than 30 are derived from the age-30 prices using the age curves above, and checked against random live CMS Marketplace API samples (maximum difference: $0.01).
  • The SLCSP is left blank for ages 18 and under: for children the CMS benchmark includes pediatric dental coverage, so it can't be derived from the age-30 price.
  • Tobacco use and family status are ignored, because the ICHRA affordability test is based on the self-only, non-tobacco premium.
